On October 24, 2015, The Pediatric Connection held its fifth annual Make a Difference Day 5K and Silent Auction in Manchester. Make a Difference Day is the largest single-day of volunteering in the country. No matter who you are or where you’re from, everyone has the power to do something that improves the life of another.
The company raised money for three local hospitality houses in Richmond – Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond, The Doorways, and the Evelyn D. Reinhart Guest House at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital. These houses provide lodging and non-medical services to families and individuals in medical crisis.
After a successful race raising a total of $24,000, The Pediatric Connection distributed $8,000 to each house. The project was then submitted to the national Make a Difference Day awards panel in an attempt to win a $10,000 grant. For the first time in ten years, The Pediatric Connection was nationally recognized as a Community winner for Make a Difference Day 2015. They were one of ten out of thousands of applicants nationwide.
On May 12, the race committee attended a reception and luncheon in Washington, DC at the National Museum for Women in the Arts. Awards were presented by Lester Holt and Andy Cohen. The team plans to use the grant to benefit the three houses and also kick-off the fundraising efforts for Make a Difference Day 2016, occurring on October 22, 2016.
